Mandibular angle morphology in open bite subjects according to the skeletal relationship: a cbct short report

Aim: The purpose of this research was to three-dimensionally evaluate the mandibular angle morphology in open bite subjects with different sagittal skeletal relationships. Material and Methods: Cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) images 26 (12 men 14 women) anterior were evaluated. sample included 3 groups categorized by their relationship (based on ANB anteroposterior dysplasia indicator (APDI)): Class I (n=9), II (n=6) III (n=11). total gonial angle, upper lower intergonial width, interantegonial width antegonial notch depth measured. ANOVA Tukey tests used for intergroup comparison. Kruskal Wallis test also when necessary. In addition, Pearson correlation coefficient calculated significant correlations between overbite Frankfurt plane (FMA) palatal plane-mandibular (PP-MP). Results: A difference only found (p=0.047). showed greater values (48°±3°) branch toward backward (42.42°±4.39°) ramus leaning forward relationship. Besides, a statistically (r=-0.418, p=0.034). Conclusion: Mandibular is similar relationships, except which increased decreased bite. Lower negatively correlated overbite. This should be considered orthodontists planning treatments.
